Pierre Boulez was arguably the single dominant figure of the classical musical world through the second half of the 20th century and beyond.’ (Guardian)
This concert is a celebration of Pierre Boulez. There are two major works (Notations and Incises) by Boulez and one by his teacher, Messiaen (Cantéyodjayâ).
Otherwise all the music in the programme (by Berio, Birtwistle, Kurtág, Unsuk Chin, Jonathan Harvey, Elliott Carter, Toshio Hosokawa and Magnus Lindberg) was specially written to celebrate Boulez’s 75th birthday and premiered, in Boulez’s presence, by Rolf Hind in London in March 2000.
Rolf Hind is a major force as a soloist, composer, recording artist and chamber musician. He has given recitals at many of Europe’s leading new music festivals, and at Carnegie Hall, Sydney Opera House and on tours of Korea, Taiwan and Cuba.
