The Purcell School Orchestra is playing two 20th century orchestral masterpieces:
Bartók’s Divertimento was written on the verge of war. Its outer movements bustle with a sunny optimism, not shared by the twists and turns of the brooding middle movement.
Stravinsky’s sparkling neo-classical concerto for chamber orchestra, Dumbarton Oaks, is celebrated for its elegance and wit.
Since 1962, the Purcell School has welcomed talented young musicians from across the UK and the world to study at Britain’s oldest specialist music school.
